CASE a Card - Watercolor Drip & Piece of Cake

In the stamping community there are a couple of different terms for the acronym "CASE". It can mean 'copy and selectively edit' or 'copy and share everything'.  Typically, when I CASE a Card I copy and selectively edit, however in this instance I am flat out copying the card and sharing it because I love everything about it!


One day I was flipping through my Facebook feed when Kelly Acheson's video appeared because someone shared it.  I fell in love with the colors, layers, sparkle, and the technique that she used - called "watercolor drip".


After watching her video I ran to my studio and immediately started to play with the technique and reproduce the card. This is my version, but please check out Kelly's video (link above)!

Swap Card for OnStage

Today I am showcasing the cards that I made to swap at OnStage in Vancouver. I used the Piece of Cake bundle (stamp set and cake builder punch). I brought 20 of each design with me and loved every single card I received in return.

 

Left Card:

• Card base is flirty flamingo, cut at 8 1/2 x 4 1/4 and scored at 5 1/2
• First layer is balmy blue cut at 4" x 5 1/4". I stamped the candle image repeatedly along the left side and the Happy Birthday sentiment repeatedly in the lower right corner using pacific point ink.
• I stamped the cake image, colored it using the Stampin Blends (flirty flamingo and balmy blue), punched it out, punched the cake stand, punched a black starburt and attached everything together using dimensionals.
• I cut two strips of ribbon, attaching them to the backside of the black star burst and added a twine from the silver and white bakers twine to the front of the cake stand. I then attached this whole embellishment to the front of the card, as shown, using dimensionals.

Right Card:

• Card base is night of navy, cut at 8 1/2 x 4 1/4 and scored at 5 1/2
• First layer is sahara sand cut at 4" x 5 1/4". I stamped the candle image repeatedly along the left side and the Happy Birthday sentiment repeatedly in the lower right corner using night of navy and calypso coral ink.
• I stamped the cake image, colored it using the Stampin Blends (calypso coral and balmy blue), punched it out, punched the cake stand, punched a black starburst and attached everything together using dimensionals.
• I then attached this whole embellishment to the front of the card, as shown, using dimensionals, and added a few sequins as I was going for a more masculine version with this card.
